How to Book
Booking a stay at LUX South Ari Atoll Resort is simple. You can reserve directly through the resort’s official website or via reputable third-party agencies. Shop around and feel free to use a travel agent who specializes in Maldives vacations, who may allow you access to special pricing, upgrades, or amenities. We were able to email the resort directly to book, which offered a slightly lower price than if we had booked on their website directly.
Don't worry if your plans or dates change because when you book through the resort directly, you have access to penalty free cancellation up to 30 days before your booking.
Timing is Key: The best approach is to book well in advance, especially from November to April, which is the peak travel season. The resort offers various packages tailored for families, couples, or all-inclusive stays. For instance, families can find packages that include special activities or dining deals. Various times of year, the resort will also offer a complimentary upgrade from half or full board to all-inclusive, which can save you a good bit of money.

In terms of payments, the resort accepts most major credit cards and provides a secure booking process. You are also able to pay with a direct bank transfer if that's what you prefer.
You will need to book a roundtrip seaplane transfer to reach LUX South Ari Atoll, which will be added automatically upon booking on their website. This is an additional charge.

Check out LUX South Ari Atoll on Booking.com for access to Genius discount rates, free breakfast, and free cancellation!
Arrival and Check-In Procedures
After landing at Velana International Airport (MLE), you will be greeted by a resort representative, who will assist you with your transfer. They will wait for you at arrivals and lead you to the Trans Maldivian Airways desk, which is the largest seaplane operator in the world!
Here, your luggage will be weighed, and yes, they are strict on weight! Your allowance is 20kg of checked baggage per person as well as 5 kg for each carry-on bag. Additional weight will be charged at $5 USD per kg.
You will need to provide the resort with your arriving and departing flight information at least 5 days before your arrival so that appropriate seaplane transfers can be arranged.
Once your luggage is checked in, you travel by shuttle bus to the seaplane terminal just a few minutes away. Here, your representative will take you to the complimentary LUX lounge to await your seaplane departure. Here, they have a variety of drinks, coffee, snacks, and desserts. There are also bathrooms and showers, as well as a small kids' play area.
You may wait up to 2 hours in the lounge for your seaplane transfer.
When it's time for boarding, they will take you downstairs and toward the seaplane, where it's time for your picturesque and exciting 50-minute seaplane journey. This flight presents breathtaking views of the atolls and coral reefs, setting the stage for an extraordinary holiday. You'll see many resorts on the way and may even stop at a few if you have other passengers to drop off.

Once you arrive at the resort, you will receive a warm welcome. Staff line up on the jetty with warm smiles and waves to greet you. Each family receives their own staff member who greets them, checks them in, and takes them to their room. Our wonderful lady was Yoojin, who was our go-to person throughout our stay. We arrived in the beautiful reception area and were given welcome drinks, snacks, and popsicles for the kids. We received resort and restaurant information as well as a map, and then it was off to our room. The kids quickly warmed up to Yoojin as they skipped off hand in hand toward our villa.

The check-in procedure is efficient, allowing you to begin your vacation immediately. We got settled in our room, where our luggage was already waiting, and were able to take a dip in our private pool before heading off to dinner.

Dining Options
Dining at LUX South Ari Atoll Resort offers a delightful experience with a variety of restaurants and bars. You can indulge in a range of culinary options, from kid-friendly chicken nuggets to elevated dishes such as Wagyu beef, oysters, and a wide variety of fresh fish.
The resort offers dining packages tailored to your needs; however, we highly recommend their all-inclusive option. You can choose from breakfast only, half board, full board, and all-inclusive. When you order food or drinks, you'll be asked for your room number to confirm your meal plan.
None of the plans include specialty dining at Allegria and Umami or specialty menu items, as indicated on the first page of the menus at each restaurant. However, all-inclusive guests will receive a discount on specialty menu items ordered.
All-inclusive packages also include a wide variety of specialty cocktails and signature drinks from any of their restaurants or bars - your villa will also come with a stock of various liquors and wines.
Children's menus are available at all restaurants and offer a variety of kid-friendly plates, such as mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. There's also a page for babies that gives you the option to have a freshly made baby puree of your choosing.
They really cater to children at mealtimes, and the staff always made sure to bring straws for their cups, as well as children's cutlery and plates. Highchairs are also available.
For each meal, you have a few options of locations to try:
Breakfast: East Market or Mixe.
Lunch: Beach Rouge, Senses, Veli Bar, Lagoon Bar.
Dinner: East Market, Mixe, Beach Rouge, Senses, Allegria ($), Umami ($).
East Market:
Our favorite breakfast spot, this buffet offers options for every palate. From yogurts and sweets to breads, meats, eggs, fruit, and traditional Maldivian cuisine. They also have stations serving up fresh and customized eggs and omelets, pancakes, waffles, and crepes. In addition, the buffet has beautiful views of the ocean, the island, and overwater villas.
Seating is comfortable and service is outstanding.
Make sure to check out East Market for dinner as well to try some amazing authentic Asian cuisine in buffet style. Here, they have a variety of foods for all palates, however, their Asian section was our favorite, offering fresh bao buns and a variety of stir-fry and wok specialties.
Mixe:
Mixe is the second buffet option, offering similar food to East Market, but on the other side of the island. Here, you'll dine with the sand at your feet in a cozier and more intimate atmosphere. They offer a breakfast and dinner buffet.
You will find similar food options here with slight changes in the menu.
Beach Rouge:
You can enjoy lunch or dinner at Beach Rouge, which offers beautiful views over the ocean. Their lunch and dinner menus feature a variety of unique food options from crab cakes, duck tacos, calamari, beef brisket, pastas, and pizza. You might also consider checking out their Josper Grill menu, which offers a selection of elevated dishes at an extra cost, such as Wagyu beef and oysters.
Senses:
Enjoy a poolside lunch or dinner here, where you can order a variety of traditional Maldivian foods such as thali and curries. You also have a choice of burgers, salads, falafel, fish, and soups.
Veli Bar:
After a swim in the nearby crystal-clear swimming pool, you can head to Veli Bar for lunch, where they serve everything from burgers, soups, poke bowls, fish and chips, and a selection of traditional Maldivian snacks.
Lagoon Bar:
Open for lunch only and conveniently located by the water sports center and island reception, the Lagoon Bar offers burgers, fish, poke bowls, kebabs, and paninis.
Allegria:
One of the 2 signature restaurants on the island, Allegria serves up authentic Italian cuisine with views of the ocean. Only open for dinner, you'll find so many amazing foods to try, such as lobster risotto, duck ravioli, gnocchi, eggplant parmesan, wagyu beef, and of course, pizza and calzones.
Umami:
The second signature restaurant on the island, Umami serves as an ode to Japan and their style of cooking. Here, you'll find gyoza, tempura, maki rolls, Japanese curry, nigiri, sashimi, and all types of sushi, along with Wagyu beef, salmon, and a variety of other elevated options.
CAFÉ LUX:
Located in the reception building, you'll find a selection of made-to-order coffee creations, including specialty lattes. You can also grab a sweet treat to pair with it. Their coffee is delicious, locally sourced, and the coffee beans are roasted on-site.
ICI:
Finally, the resort has its own ice cream brand called ICI. You can find their ice cream shop by Beach Rouge, where they offer a good selection of ice creams, including sugar-free options, popsicles, and a few topping options.
The resort caters to all dietary preferences, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. Kid-friendly meals like pasta and chicken nuggets ensure younger guests have satisfying choices. Families often find that an all-inclusive meal plan can simplify budgeting and enhance their experience.
All food and meals were marked with popular allergens such as dairy, nuts, and gluten. You'll also find a gluten-free section of breads with a dedicated toaster. In addition, vegetarian and vegan options were indicated on menus in all restaurants and bars and there seemed to be an abundant variety of options available.

Special Events/Pop-Ups
Throughout the week, the resort features exciting events and activities such as:
Movie Nights: Called Cinema Paradiso, enjoy movies twice weekly over on Senses Beach. Movies are held either on the beach or inside the Senses Bar area. Included are bean bags, drinks, popcorn, and ice cream.

Cinema Paradiso for grown-ups is held from 21:30 - 23:00.

You do have to make a reservation for these events, but they are free to attend. You could also consider attending one of their coral planting workshops to learn about restoring marine life from a Marine Biologist. Other complimentary events held occasionally include spa experiences, art events held at the Junk Art Studio, and sports such as volleyball tournaments.
Specialty Dining Events: Also on offer for a charge are specialty dining experiences throughout the week, such as Maldivian Night (food, music, and dancing), Ama's kitchen (a unique Maldivian food immersion experience), and a Garden BBQ (garden party with grilled treats.
Little Explorers Passport: On arrival, our kids were given their little explorer's passport. Here, they collect stamps around the island as they complete certain activities or items, such as reading a book at the Wanderlust Library or taking a boat ride. Once they collect all the stamps, they get to redeem a prize from the reception. Our kids thought this was so fun and loved searching the island to complete all the tasks.
Message in a Bottle: On your visit, keep your eyes peeled for sealed glass bottles around the island. These bottles contain a "message" inside that awards you with an item of experience. Think of it like a treasure hunt. You may find a free massage, a bottle of wine, or dinner for two under the stars. The bottles are pretty hard to find and involve waking up very early to search the island. The landscapes hid them each morning before sunrise, and even when we woke up at 6:00 a.m., we still couldn't locate any. You can only redeem one prize per villa, so if you don't like what you got, rehide the bottle and find another.
Luckily, our kids found one at the kids' club, and while the prize wasn't the best, they found it really fun to find a secret message in a bottle.
Service and Hospitality
Lux South Ari Atoll Resort is celebrated for its exceptional service. Staff members are friendly, attentive, and eager to meet your needs. Every staff member we came across was kind and helpful, and everyone always had a smile on their face - and not like that fake customer service kind of smile - like they loved what they do!
It creates a genuine feeling of being valued, whether you are a solo traveler, a couple, or a family. We especially appreciated the hospitality while traveling with kids. Everyone was very patient with them and truly made their experience one that none of us will ever forget.
Staff are always available when you need them, whether it's for a room clean, a mini bar top up, or just a friendly ear. They take care of you from the moment you arrive, assuring you are booked for all your requested activities, updated on the event schedule, and comfortable during your stay.
Room service even visited our room 2-3 times a day! Although this may seem excessive, it ensured that our room was always spotless, with freshly made sheets, clean towels, and the M&Ms were always topped off after our kids devoured them! Something we loved was that they always made cute animals out of the towels on the beds, while this isn't unique to this resort, it's a wonderful touch, especially for the kids. They also used fresh flowers and leaves from the grounds to leave messages on our bed, and on our final night, we came back to our room to a warm bath drawn and filled with fresh flower petals.

The staff truly ensures you have the most magical experience at LUX, and the resort wouldn't be the same without them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it truly all-inclusive?
Yes and no. While you may opt to purchase different dining packages, such as breakfast only, half board, or full board, their all-inclusive package still has some limitations.
What is not included in the all-inclusive package:
Specialty dining restaurants (Allegria and Umami).
Specialty menu items - marked as signature items on the menus. Also, the Josper Grill menu is not included.
Takeaway coffee - while coffee from the LUX cafe is complimentary, if you want a takeaway cup, you'll be charged a fee.
Babysitting - while kids over 3 can enjoy the kids club at any time during operating hours for free, those under 3 are charged at $25 USD per hour.
Optional excursions - the only included excursion is a daily snorkeling trip to their nearby reef.
Tips - tips are not included, and while not mandatory, it's an additional expense to consider.
What’s the best time of year to visit?
The ideal time to visit is between November and April during the dry season. This period offers the best weather for outdoor activities and beach enjoyment. If you visit during the wet season, you may be met with adverse weather, including tropical storms and rain.
Is it good for babies?
Definitely! The resort offers amenities for families with babies, including highchairs and cots, making travel easier for parents. In the restaurants, they also offer children's cutlery and cups. You can even have freshly made baby puree at any of the restaurants. Additionally, they offer babysitting services in your villa or at PLAY (for a fee).
Can you bring a stroller?
You can bring a stroller. However, the sandy paths may necessitate a lightweight design or all-terrain wheels for easier navigation. We recommend not bringing a stroller, however, we did notice plenty of parents who did bring them
What are some tips for future travelers?
Plan excursions in advance for popular activities like dolphin watching or diving. We recommend booking your excursions and babysitting services the day of your arrival to make sure you get the days and times you prefer.
Use reef-safe sunscreen to help protect coral reefs. Many of the beach areas on the resort provide complimentary sunscreen.
Bring a light jacket for cooler evenings. It did get a little chilly at night, so a light jacket was a lifesaver, especially for the kids.
Make sure to pack smart casual clothing for dinners - while they didn't seem too strict on this, it's requested for evenings, even at the buffets. In addition, you may consider bringing something white, as they did have a white party one evening.
Do they provide toiletries?
Yes, the resort supplies high-quality toiletries in each villa, so you can pack lighter. From shampoo and conditioner to toothbrushes, combs, sandals, and even beach bags and towels.
What if I forget baby diapers, snorkel gear, or a bathing suit?
The resort boutique stocks essentials like diapers and swimwear. The shop is small, but has items like clothing, bathing suits, toiletry items, sunscreen, snorkeling gear, beach toys, and even jewelry. Keep in mind that the prices are pretty high, so it's wise to pack everything you need for your stay.
If you need diapers before arriving at the resort (like we did), there's a shop inside the airport by the luggage storage office where you can get diapers as well as other essentials on your arrival in Male.
If you need snorkeling gear, consider renting it at the water sports center for free - you just have to return it by 5:00 p.m.
What if I have a late departing flight?
If your flight leaves later on your day of departure (ours left at 9:00 p.m.), you can enjoy the resort amenities up until your departure on the seaplane. You can't choose the time of departure, however, the staff will do their best to coordinate and get you on the latest seaplane departure if needed.
On your final morning, you will pack your belongings and leave them in your villa. You will check out by the requested time (usually 10 or 11 a.m.), and staff will bring and store your luggage at reception until your departure.
You are free to enjoy all the amenities of the resort, including pools, beaches, and restaurants, up until your departure, even if you have checked out of your room. You may have the option to stay in your villa later for a fee, however, we found the day use fee too high for us (it was $260 USD ).
Alternatively, you can enjoy your day at the beach like we did and use their complimentary bathroom and shower facilities to freshen up before your seaplane. The shower and bathroom space is located just behind the reception and has 3 showers, 3 bathrooms, 2 sinks with mirrors, and lockers. They also have complimentary toiletries here, such as razors, combs, and body lotion.
